Charles Edwin Overfield, a 39-year-old white man, was found dead of gunshot wounds on Interstate 20 about three miles east of the Texas state line in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, on March 9, 1972. He had been a witness to a burglary at the National Guard Armory in Shreveport and was killed in what has been described as an execution-style murder tied to that testimony.

Three individuals were implicated in Overfield’s murder and received varying prison sentences for their involvement. Multiple law enforcement agencies investigated, and the inquiry led to arrests and convictions of the perpetrators. The case drew attention because it illustrated the risks faced by witnesses and the lengths some criminals will go to silence them.

Did anyone in the area at the time have information about Overfield’s movements or the burglary that could shed more light on what happened?
