Doris Elizabeth McGown Angleton, 46, was found shot to death in her River Oaks, Houston home on April 16, 1997. She had dropped her twins at a softball game that day and returned home to retrieve a bat; when she failed to come back her husband, Robert Angleton, reported her missing. Her body was discovered in a hallway adjacent to the kitchen, shot multiple times in the face and chest. There was no sign of forced entry or an obvious struggle at the scene.
Robert Angleton, a bookmaker who also served as an informant for the Houston Police Department, became a person of interest in the investigation. He said his brother, Roger Angleton, was the killer. Roger was arrested in Las Vegas with a murder-for-hire contract and audio recordings that allegedly implicated both brothers in planning the crime. Before Roger could be tried he died by suicide and left a note in which he admitted killing Doris and stated Robert had no involvement.
The case contains conflicting threads: circumstantial evidence pointing at both Robert and Roger, Roger’s recorded statements and his suicide note that take different directions. Does anyone have further information about Doris, the family, or the investigation that could shed light on what happened?
