Sean Patrick Cooper was a 17-year-old Berkner High School student in Richardson, Texas, who was shot in the chest and killed on November 6, 1992. The shooting occurred when a group of assailants drove up to a crowd of students who had gathered to greet buses returning from a football game; Cooper was forced from his car and shot. A passenger in Cooper’s car, Alex M. Kuo, 16, was beaten and treated at a hospital.
Police arrested two teenagers, a 16-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, after receiving a tip; they were believed to be involved in the shooting. The attack, which involved assailants firing from two cars and sparked chaos among students, prompted a murder trial and multiple legal proceedings that exposed tensions in the community and focused attention on youth violence and school safety.
Anyone who attended the game or was at the bus pickup that night and has information about what happened is asked to come forward.
