On October 2, 1992, Patrol Officer Randy J. Zimmerman, 30, of the Jacksonville Police Department in Texas was shot and killed while responding to a domestic disturbance on Harrison Street. Zimmerman and his partner, Officer Brixey Lewis, along with Reserve Deputy Shane Cannon, separated the male and female involved. Zimmerman had Deputy Cannon escort the female to another room while he and Lewis detained the male. As the man stood to be arrested he produced a handgun and opened fire.

Zimmerman was struck in the neck and the back of his left arm but managed to return fire. Officer Lewis attempted to shoot back but was hit in his gun hand, causing his weapon to malfunction. Deputy Cannon returned fire and killed the suspect at the scene. Zimmerman left behind his wife, Peggy Zimmerman, and two children, J.D. and Nicole Zimmerman.

Does anyone have memories of Officer Zimmerman or information about that night that could add context to what happened?
