Patrol Officer Victor Pablo Serna, 29, of the Laredo Police Department was shot and killed on September 11, 1984 while responding to a disturbance. Officers had arrested two suspects, and a juvenile began throwing rocks at them. As Serna entered the yard where the juvenile was throwing rocks, another man shot him in the face with a shotgun. He was taken to Mercy Hospital but died after midnight.

The shooter, described as 18 years old, was later convicted of voluntary manslaughter and received a 20-year prison sentence. Serna had served three years with the department and was survived by his wife. The case underscores the risk officers face on routine calls and the loss felt by a widow, fellow officers, and the community.

Did anyone in Laredo at the time have information about the disturbance or the people involved that night?
