On May 9, 1997, 76-year-old Sam Arcuri and his wife, Louella, were found bludgeoned to death inside their LaPlace, Louisiana, home. Their murders became part of a broader investigation after police linked the Arcuris’ deaths to a series of attacks on elderly residents across the River Parishes.
Investigators identified a single suspect, 35-year-old auto mechanic Daniel Blank, whose motive was tied to an alleged gambling addiction and a pattern of robbing vulnerable older victims. Cynthia Bellard was arrested as an alleged accomplice, accused of driving Blank to and from crime scenes. Blank was located and arrested in Onalaska, Texas, in November 1997 and later confessed to the Arcuris’ murders and additional killings.
In November 2001 Blank pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of Sam and Louella Arcuri and received two life sentences without the possibility of parole for those counts. Did anyone in LaPlace at the time know Sam and Louella or notice suspicious activity in their neighborhood around May 1997?
