James Michael Macabe, a 12-year-old boy, was abducted from a Huntington Beach bus stop on February 3, 1980, while waiting for a bus to Disneyland. He was lured into a van by William Bonin and an accomplice, Gregory Matthew Miley, on the promise of a ride to Disneyland. Once inside the van James was abused and strangled with a ligature; his body was found beside a dumpster in Walnut City three days later.
James is listed among the victims of William Bonin, known as the Freeway Killer. Bonin was convicted of the rape, torture, and murder of 14 boys and young men between 1968 and 1980; he confessed to 21 murders and was suspected in additional cases. Gregory Matthew Miley and other accomplices were implicated in carrying out some of the killings and received varying sentences.
Does anyone have memories of the Huntington Beach or Walnut City area in early February 1980 or information about James that could help keep his story alive?
