Sherry Perisho, a 38-year-old Caucasian woman, was murdered on July 19, 1989, in Big Pine Key, Monroe County, Florida. She was living on a boat when her body was found with multiple stab wounds; her heart had been removed. That distinctive mutilation later became a central detail in the investigation.
The case was reopened in 2004 after the death of Carl Charlie Brandt, who lived near Perisho’s murder scene and was identified as the primary suspect. Witnesses placed Brandt near the area the night of the killing, and his wife reportedly saw him wet and bloody that evening; Brandt told others he had been fishing. Investigators noted similarities between Perisho’s death and the 2004 murders of Brandt’s niece and wife, including removal of the heart, and concluded Brandt was responsible for Perisho’s murder.
No formal charge was possible against Brandt after his death, but the evidence compiled by investigators has been cited as providing closure in the case. Does anyone have additional information about Sherry’s time on Big Pine Key or the night of July 19, 1989?
