Miriam Nelson, 81, was killed on March 9, 2018, in Plano, Texas. According to accounts, an individual identified as Billy Chemirmir posed as a maintenance worker to gain entry to her apartment, returned two days after an initial visit during which Nelson expressed suspicion, forced his way inside, smothered her with a pillow, and stole her jewelry.
Nelson’s death is one of several linked to Chemirmir; he has been indicted on multiple counts of capital murder that include her case. Nelson’s family and others filed lawsuits against Preston Place Retirement Community alleging the facility failed to provide adequate security, did not act on residents’ reports of suspicious activity, and failed to notify residents or families about prior suspicious deaths on the premises.
What information do readers have about security problems at Preston Place or about Miriam Nelson’s final days that could help clarify how this attack happened?
