Evelyn Dieterich, 68, of Catonsville, Maryland, was attacked, sexually assaulted, and killed on March 29, 1981. Early accounts describe someone believed to be doing handyman work around her house before the encounter turned violent, leaving a brutal scene and no immediate clear path to a suspect. The case cooled in the months and years after the killing as investigators had little to go on.
Decades later DNA testing linked the crime to Vernon Lee Clark in 1999. According to later reports, Clark pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in Dieterich’s killing in September 2000 and received another life sentence. After the DNA match and guilty plea, no other suspects have been publicly identified in her death.
Did anyone in Catonsville or the Baltimore-area in 1981 ever notice a stranger doing handyman work near homes, or have information about that day?
