On April 15, 1986, 36-year-old Lynda Moore was found murdered in her Saxtons River, Vermont, home. She had been sunbathing and doing laundry earlier that day; her husband discovered her body in the living room around 4 p.m. She had been stabbed 25 times and the scene showed signs of a fierce struggle, with no evidence of robbery or sexual assault. Investigators concluded the apparent motive was to kill.

Witnesses reported a suspicious man in the area that afternoon, described as about 20 to 25 years old, stocky, dark-haired, wearing glasses and carrying a blue knapsack; a composite sketch was circulated. That man was later identified and subsequently excluded as a suspect. Authorities also explored a possible link between Moore’s killing and a series of brutal attacks attributed to the suspected Connecticut River Valley Killer, because the multiple stab wounds resembled other cases from the 1980s. The case remains unsolved.

If anyone knew Lynda, saw the man with the blue knapsack that day, or has information about connections to the other attacks, please share what is known.
