Alonzo Hogan was a 34-year-old Black man from Raceland, Louisiana, last seen at a Kmart in Houma late on Friday, July 1, 2005. By the next morning his body had been left off Louisiana Highway 306 near Bayou Gauche in St. Charles Parish, a lonely stretch investigators described as a dumping ground rather than a place where anything accidental happens. He had been strangled and suffocated, and his bicycle and backpack were missing, as if someone had tried to erase the last path he took.

Detectives noted similarities between Hogan’s killing and a disturbing pattern of men being asphyxiated and abandoned in remote spots across south Louisiana—method, disposal, and geography prompted agencies to compare cases that crossed parish lines. In December 2006 Ronald Joseph Dominique was arrested in Houma; authorities said he confessed to killing multiple men and provided details investigators believed only the perpetrator would know. Dominique later pleaded guilty to multiple murders and received consecutive life terms for eight counts of first-degree murder in Terrebonne Parish. Hogan’s name has been tied to Dominique in retrospective accounts, making Hogan one chapter in a wider, devastating sequence of killings that affected families across the bayou.

If anyone knew Alonzo Hogan, saw him that night, or has information about his movements between Houma and Bayou Gauche, please come forward.
