Juan Antonio Ramirez, 51, was beaten in Santa Monica, California, on September 10, 2018, and suffered severe head trauma. He remained in a coma for more than two years and died of those injuries in January 2021. The assault was one of a string of violent attacks on vulnerable people in the Los Angeles area that began after the suspect arrived from Texas in early September 2018.
Authorities linked the attacks to Ramon Alberto Escobar, 50, who had also killed his uncle and aunt in Houston in late August 2018 before coming to California. Surveillance footage and distinctive features such as a bow-legged walk helped identify Escobar; police found a wooden baseball bat and bolt cutters in his vehicle after his September 24, 2018, arrest. Escobar confessed to multiple killings and attacks, blaming various motives including irritation with the victims and a need for money.
If anyone knew Juan Ramirez or witnessed the September 10 attack, please share what you remember.
