On July 27, 1977, Gustavo Ceballos, a 58-year-old Hispanic man, was one of six people executed during a home invasion in Carol City, Florida. The assailants posed as a power company crew, gained entry, bound the victims and shot them at point-blank range. Five of the six present were killed; Belinda Worley survived by feigning death and later identified John Errol Ferguson as one of the attackers.
Authorities say Ferguson acted with two accomplices. He was arrested, charged with multiple counts of first-degree murder and other offenses, convicted, and ultimately executed by lethal injection on August 5, 2013, at age 65. The massacre is described as one of Florida’s most notorious crimes and remains a tragic part of the victims’ families’ history.
Does anyone have memories of Gustavo Ceballos or information about the household and community in Carol City at that time?
