Maria Bruno was a 32-year-old Latina mother of four who was stabbed to death in her apartment in El Monte, California, on December 1, 2005. She had moved into the unit about ten days earlier after separating from her husband and chose the location because she believed it to be secure. Bruno was killed in her sleep; her body was mutilated, with her breasts removed and one nipple placed over her mouth. Her estranged husband, Irving Bruno, discovered her in a pool of blood and reported the scene to authorities.

Investigators found the killer had entered through the kitchen window. The perpetrator was later identified as Michael Gargiulo, a neighbor and air conditioner repairman who had stalked and attacked women. He was linked to multiple cases, including the 2001 death of Ashley Ellerin and a 2008 attack on Michelle Murphy, who survived. Gargiulo was arrested in 2008 and charged in Bruno’s killing. If anyone knew Maria, her movements in El Monte, or observed suspicious activity near her apartment in late November or early December 2005, please share what is known.
