Rebekah Leicy, 31, of Mansfield, Ohio, was found dead in a wooded area near Ashland in March 2015. An autopsy attributed her death to respiratory arrest from acute intoxication by morphine, cocaine and Buprenorphine; her death certificate was initially recorded as undetermined before further investigation.
Rebekah struggled with drug dependency and had been staying in a vacant building with sporadic contact with family. She was a mother of three; her mother had died in 2006 and family members say that loss worsened her addiction. Her family believes her death was connected to drug-related activity and have suggested she may have been injected as retaliation.
Authorities say Shawn Grate, already convicted in other killings, confessed to strangling Rebekah after accusing her of stealing money and later pleaded guilty to aggravated murder and gross abuse of a corpse in her case. Some details remain contested by the family.
If anyone knew Rebekah, her whereabouts in early 2015, or has information about the events that led to her death, please share what you know.
