Elizabeth Griffith, 29, was found dead at an abandoned property at 363 Covert Court near downtown Ashland, Ohio. Her remains were discovered on September 13, 2016, alongside those of Stacey Stanley in an advanced state of decomposition; Elizabeth was identified by dental records. The autopsy determined cause of death as asphyxiation. She was reported as Caucasian, had been tied up and left unclothed in an upstairs closet.

Investigators arrested 41-year-old Shawn Grate after a surviving victim escaped and called 911, leading officers to the Covert Court property. Grate admitted to strangling both women and was convicted of aggravated murder and kidnapping; his crimes were described as opportunistic and included other charges such as robbery, rape, and abuse of a corpse. He confessed to multiple killings across Ohio, though not all cases have been formally charged.
