Denise Lampe was 19 when she was murdered on April 1, 1976, in Daly City, California. She was found stabbed multiple times inside her car in the parking lot of Serramonte Mall after going shopping with a friend earlier that day. Lampe was remembered as well-liked and kind, and her death remained unsolved for decades.

Her case was long linked to the Gypsy Hill Murders, a series of killings of young women in San Mateo County in early 1976, but later forensic work showed multiple perpetrators were involved. DNA from a bloodstain on Lampe’s jacket eventually tied Leon Melvin Seymour to the crime; he was arrested in 2017 and later convicted in 2023. The conviction changed the understanding of Lampe’s killing, attributing her murder to Seymour rather than to the serial pattern previously suspected.

Did anyone who knew Denise or who frequented Serramonte Mall in 1976 notice anything unusual that day?
