I've been thinking a lot about the neighbors and how they must have felt during the days leading up to the discovery of the bodies. Imagine seeing George Hassell trying to sell off the family's belongings at that yard sale. I can't help but wonder if any of them sensed something was off. It's chilling to think about how close they were to someone capable of such unimaginable violence. How horrifying it must have been when they found out the truth—knowing they'd been just feet away from the shallow grave in the root cellar. My heart goes out to those community members who lived through that experience and had to process such a brutal and senseless crime in their otherwise quiet town.
