Has anyone else been looking into how George Jefferson Hassell managed to go undetected with so much criminal behavior before this horrific crime? It's incredibly unsettling to think about how someone with a history of violence, including a previous family massacre, could continue without raising red flags. The fact that he was even able to join the military, with desertion later on his record, speaks volumes about the lack of communication between agencies back then. I can't help but think about the lives that could have been saved had his past been scrutinized more thoroughly. Little Johnnie and his siblings never had a chance with someone like George in their lives. It's important we remember the failures of the system then so we can prevent anything like this from happening again. Hoping we can shed some light on the vigilance needed in similar cases today. What do you all think about how these issues were handled at the time?
