Carolyn Davis was 15 when she was last seen hitchhiking on Highway 101 in Garberville, California, on July 15, 1973. Her body was recovered on July 31, 1973, less than ten feet from where two other victims, Maureen Sterling and Yvonne Weber, had been found. The cause of death was determined to be strychnine poisoning.

Her killing was linked to the Santa Rosa Hitchhiker Murders, a string of unsolved homicides of female hitchhikers in and around Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, between 1972 and 1973. Those victims were typically found nude in rural areas near steep embankments or creek beds; investigators believed the perpetrator interviewed potential victims before killing them. Reports also included sightings of a tall, slender man who allegedly offered marijuana to some victims, but no definitive suspect has been identified.

Does anyone have information about Carolyn’s movements in northern California in July 1973 or remember seeing her along Highway 101?
