Rodney Pastor Jones was shot to death in the early morning hours of March 19, 2007, near Newhouse Avenue and North 22nd Street in the North City neighborhood of St. Louis, Missouri. The shooting occurred in a stretch of the city that had been experiencing a rise in firearm homicides at the time, and Jones’ body was found in the street.

Jones was a regular at the Friedens Neighborhood Foundation, attending the weekly community lunch and participating in the organization’s job club. Those connections marked him as an engaged member of local support networks trying to build stability in an often overlooked part of the city.
