Lorraine Simonne Arnold Currier, 55, and her husband William were last seen the evening of June 8, 2011, at their Essex, Vermont, home. Concerned family reported them missing the next day when they failed to show up for work. Evidence at the residence suggested the disappearance was not voluntary and prompted an intensive investigation.
The case broke after Israel Keyes, arrested in Alaska for a separate murder, confessed to abducting and killing the Curriers. Keyes said he had buried a murder kit near the couple’s home years earlier, forced them into their car on June 8, drove them to an abandoned farmhouse, shot William after he tried to defend Lorraine, then sexually assaulted and strangled Lorraine and showed her William’s body in the basement before killing her. Neither body was ever recovered; the farmhouse was demolished and an eleven-week landfill search turned up no remains.
Keyes died by suicide in custody on December 2, 2012, leaving the families without the victims’ remains and many unanswered questions. Did anyone in Essex at the time notice suspicious activity or an unfamiliar vehicle near the Curriers’ property?
