Gina Wilson Green, a 41-year-old white woman, was found dead in her home on Stanford Avenue in Baton Rouge on September 24, 2001, after she failed to show up for work and people close to her realized something was terribly wrong. Investigators determined she had been strangled and sexually assaulted. Neighbors reported she had been uneasy about her safety and had taken precautions inside her home, yet the attacker gained access and killed her.
Green’s murder contributed to growing fear across neighborhoods near Louisiana State University as additional women were attacked or killed in the region. As investigators examined multiple cases, the killings began to be seen as part of a pattern. DNA later tied Green’s death to Derrick Todd Lee, placing her among the earliest victims linked to him forensically. Lee was identified as a focus of the investigation in 2003 and was captured on May 27, 2003.
Did anyone in Baton Rouge at the time notice suspicious activity or someone repeatedly in the areas near Stanford Avenue in late 2001?
