On the evening of October 13, 1987, 28-year-old Cinde Kemple-Buchner was found dead inside her home on I-70 Drive Northeast, just east of Route Z in Boone County, Missouri. An autopsy determined her death was a homicide. Evidence at the scene indicated she had put up a desperate struggle before succumbing to her injuries.

Investigators established a last confirmed sighting earlier that afternoon around 1:30 p.m., when witnesses saw Kemple-Buchner outside her residence talking with an unidentified person. The identity of that individual remains unknown and is a central question in the case.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Department has kept the investigation open for decades. Detectives reviewed reports and evidence again in 2011 and have periodically re-examined the file, but no suspects have been publicly identified, charged, or convicted.

If anyone remembers seeing Cinde that afternoon or recognizes the description of the unidentified person she was speaking with, please share what you know with investigators.
