Javier Huerta was 20 when he was killed on November 15, 2006. His body and that of 28-year-old Gustavo Olivares-Rivas were found inside a pickup truck near the Ocala National Forest in Florida; both victims had been bound with zip ties and shot multiple times, which authorities described as a targeted execution.
Investigators tied the killings to a dispute over about 10 kilograms of cocaine allegedly stolen during a home-invasion robbery. José Manuel Martinez, described as a hitman for a Mexican drug cartel, was later linked to the scene when his DNA was identified on a cigarette butt in the victims’ vehicle. Martinez was arrested in 2013 at the Arizona–Mexico border, confessed to the murders, and was charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder.
Martinez ultimately received life sentences in Florida after jurors declined to impose the death penalty. Does anyone have information about Huerta’s life in Florida or the events that led up to November 15, 2006?
