Michael Krieger, 81, and his 78-year-old wife Betty were murdered in their West Orange, New Jersey home the day before Thanksgiving 1992. The couple had planned to travel to New York for a family celebration but did not arrive, and their son alerted police when they failed to show. Officers found both victims dead and noted no sign of forced entry, which pointed investigators toward someone the Kriegers had let into their house.
Investigators focused on a handyman, Frank Masini, who had done carpentry work for the couple. He initially denied involvement, but a bloody footprint at the scene was matched to a specialized pair of hiking boots owned by Masini. He was arrested and later confessed; authorities linked him to the Kriegers deaths and to two other elderly victims. In 1993 Masini was sentenced to life in prison.
Did anyone in West Orange at the time know the Kriegers or Masini and remember interactions that could shed light on how Masini came to be in their home?
