On January 31, 2025, Marcus Martin, 40, was sitting in his vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart at 1501 AL Highway 14 East in Selma when he was struck and killed by gunfire from a shootout that began inside the store and continued into the parking area. The exchange of bullets also damaged multiple nearby cars; witnesses described a chaotic scene with countless rounds fired. Martin was a local organist who played at area churches, and his death was mourned as a profound loss to the community.
Local, state, and federal authorities opened an active investigation. Within days four suspects aged 16 to 20 were arrested or sought in connection with the shooting and charged with capital murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle: Terry James Jackson Jr., 16; Jonathan Latrell Webster, 17; Tashun Roderick Benard Hunter, 19; and Willie James Hunter, 20.
Was anyone in Selma that evening who saw the disturbance inside the store or the parking lot able to provide more details to investigators?
