John Sibole, 49, was fatally shot on the night of March 10, 2025, inside a home on North McKinley Way in Willow, Alaska. Alaska State Troopers were called about 9:15 p.m.; Sibole was found deceased and his body was sent to the State Medical Examiner. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation took over the case.

Sibole returned with his son; the son said he heard raised voices and then a single gunshot. Family members found Sibole in a hallway outside the shooter’s room with an apparent abdominal wound.

Willow resident Jared Higgins, 31, who had rented a room in the house since late January, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and three counts of third-degree assault. Investigators noted Higgins reported being struck before he fired, had minor redness and a scratch, and said he had smoked marijuana earlier that evening. All charges are accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

Did anyone in Willow see or hear anything that night that could help clarify what happened?
