Chasity Taylor was 46 when she was fatally shot in Grant County on January 22, 2025. Born May 10, 1978, in Cuthbert, Georgia, she lived in Sheridan, Arkansas, and worked in schools — first as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Pine Bluff and, beginning in 2020, as the cafeteria manager at Sheridan Intermediate School. She is remembered as a free spirit and devoted mother; her son is Jason Rucker Jr.

A juvenile male was also shot in the same incident and survived, reported to be in stable condition after treatment. Police investigated and arrested 42-year-old Jason Rucker of Jefferson County; he was charged with first-degree murder and aggravated assault on a family or household member and held on a $5,000,000 bond. The community and Chasity’s coworkers at the school are grieving her loss.
