On the night of April 7, 2025, deputies from the Lake Elsinore Sheriff’s Station responded to a reported shooting at a home on North Poe Street in Lake Elsinore, California. Responding officers found 37-year-old Marcus Bryant of Hemet suffering from an apparent gunshot wound; he died at the scene despite first responders’ efforts.

The Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit took over the investigation and detained multiple people at the residence for questioning. Authorities later arrested 39-year-old George Eddie Steven Thompson of Lake Elsinore; he was charged with murder and a felony weapon enhancement and booked at the Cois Byrd Detention Center.
