On the night of February 28, 2025, Idaho State Police troopers stopped at a white 2008 Toyota Camry parked with its hazard lights on along the shoulder of Interstate 15 near milepost 85 in Bingham County. Inside the vehicle they found the driver, 27-year-old Alexander Jose Duran Pirela of Mapleton, Utah, deceased. An autopsy by the Bingham County Coroner’s Office found multiple gunshot wounds, and his death was ruled a homicide.
Born January 3, 1998, in Venezuela, Alexander’s family described him as noble, kind, and affectionate; survivors named in reports include his parents Angelica Pirela and Alexander Duran, and his son Alex Manuel. Idaho State Police detectives are handling the active investigation and have asked the public for tips from anyone who was traveling on I-15 that evening and might have seen the parked Camry, other vehicles stopped nearby, or suspicious activity. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced.
Did anyone traveling I-15 near milepost 85 on February 28 see that Camry or notice anything that could help investigators?
