Shirley St. Pearre, 73, was found with a gunshot wound to the head at her Valrico, Florida home on April 2, 2025. Deputies responding to a call reporting an accidental injury discovered her in critical condition; she was taken to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
The 911 call was placed by 48-year-old Michael Zammiello, who initially said the shooting was an accident. Detectives later concluded the incident was intentional. Zammiello was arrested without incident and first charged with manslaughter; prosecutors upgraded the charge the same day to premeditated first-degree murder with a firearm.
At a bond hearing on April 7, prosecutors introduced Medical Examiner evidence showing the shot was fired from behind the left side of St. Pearre’s head and exited the front right side. Investigators said the wound pattern and scene evidence did not match Zammiello’s changing accounts, which included an accidental shooting and a struggle for the gun. The judge denied bond and Zammiello remains jailed awaiting trial.
