A late-night dispute in LaGrange turned deadly on March 22, 2025, when 22-year-old Zymerious Daunte’ Cofield was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 900 block of Mason Street. First responders and police performed life-saving measures and transported him to WellStar West Georgia Medical Center, where he later died.

Investigators say the shooting followed an altercation between Cofield and another person. Police identified 18-year-old Dewan Harden Jr. as the suspect; he was located by the West Point Police Department, taken to the LaGrange Police Department for questioning, and later booked into the Troup County Jail on a murder charge. Authorities noted Harden was not on active parole or probation at the time.

Funeral services for Cofield were held April 5, 2025, at Peace and Goodwill Baptist Church in Roanoke, Alabama. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to come forward.
