Jonathan Isaiah Johnson, 19, was fatally shot on the evening of March 1, 2025, in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Deputies responding to reports of an armed individual near Southwest 14th Street heard a gunshot and found Johnson a few blocks away with a gunshot wound; he was taken to Broward Health North and pronounced deceased.

A Broward Sheriff’s Office helicopter located 19-year-old Kenneth Philpart Jr. in his underwear holding a firearm near Southwest Sixth Terrace. Philpart Jr. tried to evade officers, was later found hiding in a trash can, and was taken into custody and transported to a hospital for medical clearance. He told investigators the shooting was self-defense.

Philpart Jr. was charged with multiple offenses including possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent, possession of fentanyl with intent to sell, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, improper exhibition of a firearm, and resisting an officer without violence. Authorities said the case would be presented to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office to determine whether homicide charges would be filed. The Broward Sheriff’s Homicide Unit and specialized teams assisted in the investigation, which remains ongoing.
