On the evening of February 25, 2025, a 911 call reported that a man had just shot his friend at a home on Powder Springs Road in Austell, Georgia. Officers arriving at the scene found 33-year-old Desmond Carter, a Black/African American male, with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 25-year-old man named Joseph Crawford was located outside the residence and taken into custody. The motive for the shooting is unclear and the investigation is ongoing. Crawford is facing felony murder and aggravated assault charges.
