Anthony Miller, 31, was shot on March 16, 2025, in the 1100 block of N. Third Street in Champaign, Illinois. Officers found a vehicle struck by gunfire with Miller inside; he received medical aid at the scene and was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery. Initially listed in stable condition, he died the next day at 5:15 p.m. on March 17, 2025.

Police say 22-year-old Zaire Herman of Champaign opened fire while Miller was inside his vehicle and then fled on foot. Officers located and arrested Herman nearby; he faces charges that include Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, Aggravated Assault, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and investigators say additional charges may be possible. The Champaign Police Department has classified this as a homicide investigation and is canvassing for witnesses and exterior surveillance video.
