On January 30, 2025, a burned vehicle was found near Condor Road and Red Tape Road in Oroville, California. Inside were the remains of two men later identified by DNA as 22-year-old Esequiel Valle-Arellano of San Diego and 26-year-old Juan Daniel Arreola-Solano of Eureka. A forensic pathologist determined both victims died from gunshot wounds.
Investigators say Valle-Arellano and Arreola-Solano travelled to Oroville from Humboldt County that morning in the company of Wesley Evans, 45, of Rio Dell, and Samuel Ashley, 43, of Ferndale. Detectives uncovered evidence of a dispute between Ashley and at least one victim over a recent gun and drug transaction. Authorities contend the dispute escalated after the group reached the remote Condor Road area; the two victims were shot and their vehicle set on fire before the suspects fled back to Humboldt County.
Arrest warrants for murder were obtained for Evans and Ashley, and both were taken into custody in Humboldt County on February 10, 2025, then transported to Butte County. The investigation and preparations for prosecution continue. Does anyone who knew Valle-Arellano or Arreola-Solano, or who was near Condor Road on January 30, have information to share?
