In the early morning hours of January 30, 2025, a domestic dispute at a home on Roxholly Lane in Buford, Georgia, ended with 32-year-old Gavin Fitzgibbon found fatally wounded by at least one gunshot. Gwinnett County Police responded shortly after 1:30 a.m. following a 911 call and discovered Fitzgibbon inside the residence.

A roommate, 28-year-old Ian Stewart, who was living in the same home, was detained for questioning after interviews with witnesses at the scene. Stewart was later arrested and charged with Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony; he was booked into the Gwinnett County Jail and held without bond. Police described the motive as domestic in nature.

Fitzgibbon worked as an Amazon delivery driver and held a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Family and friends remembered him as a gentle giant who loved music, video games, history, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and quiet game nights. A private celebration of his life was held on February 15, 2025.
