Madeline Rose Cuevas, 22, was found dead from a gunshot wound in her Hanford, California, home on January 28, 2025. Her father, Joel Cuevas, requested a welfare check after he could not reach her; investigators believe the shooting occurred between midnight and 1 a.m., giving the suspect roughly a 15-hour head start before the body was discovered.

An Amber Alert was issued when Madeline’s two daughters, 3-year-old Arya and 2-year-old Alana, were taken from the scene by their father, 23-year-old Jonathan Alexis Maldonado-Cruz. Investigators tracked Maldonado-Cruz’s cellphone to Mexico; with FBI and Mexican authorities involved, he surrendered at the San Ysidro border crossing on January 30, 2025. The children were found safe and returned to family.

Maldonado-Cruz was arrested and charged with Madeline’s murder; he pleaded not guilty to all charges, including special enhancements for using a firearm and lying in wait. The firearm has not been recovered and he is considered armed and dangerous. The family has set up a GoFundMe for the children and the community has held vigils and shared condolences.

Does anyone have information about Madeline’s last known movements or who may have been with her the night of January 27–28?
