A violent confrontation on the morning of January 14, 2025, left Kenneth Lemar Richards dead in a home on the east side of Fort Wayne. Officers responded about 9:45 a.m. to reports of a shooting near the 1400 block of East Lewis Street and found Richards, a 53-year-old Black male, with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Allen County Coroner’s Office ruled the death a homicide, citing gunshot wounds to the neck and torso.

A 24-year-old man named Kenneth King was at the residence and was taken into custody after placing a 911 call and telling dispatchers he had shot a man in self-defense. King told detectives a dispute began over power in the house, that Richards became threatening, and that he fired multiple shots during a physical altercation; detectives reported inconsistencies in his account and charged him with one count of murder. The two men’s exact relationship has not been clarified. If anyone knew Kenneth Richards or was in that neighborhood that morning, please share what might help the investigation.
