On January 27, 2025, 80-year-old Richard Molica of Santa Rosa was found dead in his home on Stony Point Road with a gunshot wound. Deputies say his son, 38-year-old Cody Molica, called and reported that he had shot his father while Richard’s 72-year-old wife, Beverly Molica, was at the scene. Investigators discovered the elder Molica lying on the living room floor and pronounced him deceased.
Records in the case describe a recent history of family violence. Cody had been arrested on January 21 on an elder abuse complaint after allegedly pushing his father during an argument and reportedly threatening to kill both parents and himself. He was released the next day under conditions barring contact with his father and prohibiting firearm possession. After the January 27 shooting, Cody was detained outside the house and arrested on murder and conspiracy charges. Beverly was later located in Vallejo and arrested on conspiracy and accessory after the fact; both are being held in Sonoma County Jail without bail.
The Violent Crime and Crime Scene units are investigating. The prior elder abuse incident and the terms of Cody’s release have been highlighted as troubling details in understanding how this death occurred. Does anyone have information about the family or those events leading up to January 27?
