Jeremiyah Nelson, a 12-year-old African American boy from Saint Petersburg, Florida, died on December 23, 2024, after suffering a gunshot wound at the James Park Apartments on 3rd Avenue North. Officers responding to reports of a shooting found him with severe injuries; he was taken to All Children’s Hospital and died later that night. Authorities describe the shooting as accidental and are investigating how Jeremiyah came into possession of the firearm involved.

No arrests or suspects have been announced. The St. Petersburg Police Department continues to probe the circumstances that led to the boy’s death. Visitation was scheduled for January 10 at Holy Ghost Church of God, with a service on January 11 at All Nations Church of God by Faith.
