Aristeo Ramirez was 17 and a high school senior when he was killed on the evening of January 11, 2025, in Gainesville, Georgia. Police responded to Hillcrest Avenue after reports of a crash and gunfire and found Ramirez deceased inside the wrecked vehicle; investigators determined he had suffered a fatal gunshot wound that caused the car to crash. A 16-year-old passenger was also shot in the foot, fled before police arrived, and was later located and treated at a local medical center.
Authorities say the shooting was not random and that Ramirez and the other teen had arranged to meet the shooter or shooters near Gainesville Square. Two teenage suspects have been identified. Seventeen-year-old Roberto Acevedo was arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter. Seventeen-year-old Alan Barrera is being sought on felony murder and aggravated assault charges and has been described by law enforcement as armed and dangerous.
Aristeo’s family remembered him as a cherished son, brother, and friend; he had been planning to follow his older brother into the Air Force. If anyone has information about the meeting near Gainesville Square that night or Barrera’s whereabouts, please come forward.
