Kenneth Collier Jr., a 17-year-old Black male, was fatally shot on January 9, 2025, at the Residence at Riverside apartment complex on Riverside Parkway in the Austell area of Cobb County, Georgia. Cobb County police were dispatched about 8:22 p.m. after reports of gunfire; Collier was found with multiple gunshot wounds, taken to a hospital, and could not be saved. Family accounts say he had gone to visit a friend, while others said he had been with relatives earlier that day. Authorities initially released few details about what happened inside the complex or whether Collier was an intended target.

Collier had been an anti-gun-violence and anti-bullying advocate; his mother, Tamika Trimble, had been shot to death in 2017 in an unsolved homicide. On February 6, 2025, Cobb County authorities arrested Onri Zeron Crawford and charged him with felony murder and aggravated assault; arrest documents alleged he had been involved in a shootout inside the apartment and possessed an AR-style pistol. A second arrest followed on February 25, when Ryan Crowder was charged on similar counts. A grand jury indictment returned in early March accused Crawford and Crowder of attempting to steal Collier’s firearm and of engaging in a shootout that struck Collier multiple times; the indictment alleges murder-related and other felony counts but does not establish guilt.

Vigils were held and Collier’s father spoke publicly about the loss.
