A 17-year-old named Amari Johnson was killed in a mass shooting at a party in Signal Hill, California on the night of December 28, 2024. The shooting occurred at about 10 p.m. on the 1000 block of Burnett Street. Seven people aged 17 to 19 were shot; six others suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Johnson was transported to a hospital and was pronounced dead early the next morning on December 29, 2024.

Johnson, who was weeks shy of her 18th birthday, had been preparing for college and had received multiple acceptance letters. Surveillance from a nearby home showed a young woman with blood on her chest frantically seeking help after the gunfire, but the homeowner did not open the door.
