A family crawfish boil in Baker, Louisiana, turned deadly on a Sunday evening when a heated argument at a home on Rolling Acres Drive escalated into gunfire that killed 27-year-old Gad Davis. Davis, described as a devoted husband and father who enjoyed working on cars and stereo systems, was struck in the forehead and died at the scene after an exchange between family members and 44-year-old Steven Berthelot.
He then allegedly retrieved a second firearm from a closet and fired, killing Davis. In the immediate aftermath Davis’s brother shot Berthelot multiple times, leaving him critically wounded; Berthelot was taken to a hospital and remained in custody. Davis’s mother also inflicted injuries on herself but was expected to survive.
Berthelot was later arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on charges of second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. Investigators were still determining whether the brother who shot Berthelot would face any charges.
Did anyone attend that gathering or know the family who can share details about what led to the argument?
