Donavin James Cuevas, 21, was shot and killed during an early morning gathering at a home in the 300 block of Vinona Terrace in Commerce Township on April 11, 2025. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, guests were socializing and playing video games when a firearm was discharged about 12:25 a.m.; Donavin was struck in the back of the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old man who lived at the residence was taken into custody. Sheriff Michael Bouchard said investigators were confident the person in custody fired the weapon and that the shooting appeared to have no legal or appropriate justification, though reports did not immediately release the suspect’s name. Donavin was born in Grand Blanc in 2003 and is remembered as kind and humorous; he is survived by his mother Uvanka, sisters Sha-na and Cheyenne, his girlfriend Jillian, and other relatives.

If anyone attended that gathering or has information about what happened that night, please come forward to assist the ongoing investigation.
