On the morning of March 8, 2025, 23-year-old Jonah Kimindu Mutua was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the 2700 block of Fairdale Terrace in Silver Spring, Maryland. A caller reported the shooting at about 11:04 a.m.; despite life-saving efforts by a Good Samaritan, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue personnel, and responding officers, Mutua was pronounced dead at the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore later ruled the death a homicide.
Investigators from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division led the probe. On April 2, 2025, authorities issued a first-degree murder arrest warrant for 23-year-old Douglas David Lacey of Prince George’s County, and he was taken into custody in Upper Marlboro on April 4, 2025, by a task force including U.S. Marshals and local police. Lacey was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and held pending a bond hearing.
If anyone witnessed the shooting in the Fairdale Terrace area or has information about Jonah’s last movements, please come forward.
