On the evening of February 26, 2025, gunfire at the intersection of Church and Pellerin Streets in Jeanerette, Louisiana, left 22-year-old Oshaun Javon Dooda Smith fatally wounded. First responders found Smith with multiple gunshot wounds; the Iberia Parish Coroner’s Office later pronounced him dead. Authorities cordoned the scene and began an investigation into the homicide.
Police identified three teenage suspects. Seventeen-year-old Mykel Gage was arrested and charged with second-degree murder and weapons violations; two 16-year-olds were also taken into custody but not named because of their juvenile status. Investigators say the shooting appears connected to an ongoing feud between Smith and the suspects.
Smith, known to family as Dooda, was a West St. Mary High School graduate who played football and basketball and was remembered as the youngest child of his mother, Demetra Smith. Does anyone in the area have information about the events that night or the feud that preceded this shooting?
